Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was deeply concerned about the welfare of disabled persons. He firmly believed that all impediments to their full and equal participation in nation-building should be removed. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Foundation has, therefore, decided to concentrate on the welfare of disabled persons as one of its primary objectives.

  
 
As we march towards the 21st centaury, the Foundation should work:
a.
 to create high awareness, especially by encouraging advocacy and self-help groups;
b.
 to promote employment generation for the disabled, particularly in rural areas;
c.
 to match the needs of potential employers with the capabilities of disabled people and set up systems for this purpose;
d.
 to promote vocationally-oriented education and training to create useful skills in the disabled so as to make them self-supporting;
e.
 to promote efforts for the physical, mental, psychological and medical rehabilitation of disabled people;
f.
 to support developmental efforts in the field of rehabilitation to encourage and sponsor action oriented research; and
g.
 to support projects aimed specifically towards the welfare of the rural disabled, women with disabilities and the severely/multiply disabled.
 
OLD AGE HOME
 

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Foundation India is working for the cause and care older person’s with the ultimate aim of empowering them to take decisions pertaining to their own lives.

For many older people who have nowhere to go and no one to support them, old age homes serve as a safe haven. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Foundation believes that old age homes are not the solution to the problem person is within his or her own family. These homes give them a sense of security and friendship as share their grievances with others like them staying at the home, making them an unusual family of older people.
 
IN INDIA
90% of older persons are from the unorganized sector, with no social security at the age of 60.

30% of older persons live below the poverty line, and another 33% just marginally over it.

80% live in rural areas.

73% are illiterate, and can only be engaged in physical labor.

55% of women over 60 are widows, many of them with no support whatsoever.
